Natural Intelligence Camp is a small camp that supports analog-based programs, bringing Martians together for community-building through creative endeavors, services, workshops and curious experiments. Our core philosophy is that developing strong interpersonal skills will support well-being and success in this ongoing experiment in off-grid living.
Our programs will engage Martians, locals and the physical environment of the area around Bombay Beach and beyond. Some examples of NI Camp programs are: an Effective Communication workshop series, Desert Ecology science experiments, Doggie Day Care, Slab City & local culture explorations, Social Services Office Hours, and the Martian Cocktail Academy.
Organization
NI Camp members value a conscientious mode of operation, teamwork, direct and kind communication, and pragmatic action. We love Mars College, and strive to continuously improve it, not just as a site of teaching and learning, but also as a community with a unique culture that fosters meaningful creativity in its members and helps them thrive in this off-grid environment.
Every week, NI Camp members will meet to discuss how our programs are working, what could be improved, and how that can be accomplished. We will document the processes and structure of our actions, so that NI Camp can contribute to learning and helping future generations of Martians. This will be casual and fun, creating a sense of joy around our work.
Facilities
Members will be self-sufficient in terms of housing and kitchen. They are welcome to develop a living/kitchen cooperative among themselves, or possibly with other camps on Mars, but should come prepared to be fully self-sufficient.
Members of NI camp strongly support pooling resources and are willing to contribute to the management of energy, water, waste, and also shared space or kitchen cooperatives, if they arise organically.
Shared facilities:
-
A dome structure, or other structure, which will serve as a “safe space” for Mars Campus, where NI camp members, or camp guests, can hold classes and workshops.
-
Individual trailers from the camp will serve as shared workspaces at the discretion of the owners, who may choose to hold office hours or small group classes in their personal spaces.
-
A bar for Martian Cocktail Academy (selected open hours only, it’s not a party!)
-
A fenced-in area that will be used as a doggie day care, to help celebrate the privilege of having canine Martians while minimizing disruption of human Martians in classes and workshops.
